╳ Practice What You Preach

Over the past several months devoted Thread Count Lab readers have followed our musings and joined us in celebrating the beauty of materials. Well now it’s our turn to practice what we preach. Thread Count Lab has been invited to participate in a unique Five-Year Research Project hosted by the National Science Council, Taiwan or the NSC. Established in 1959, the NSC is the highest Taiwanese government agency responsible for promoting the development of science and technology, and project screening is rigorous; therefore we are honoured by their invitation and trust.

We think you might be interested in following the development of our project, so Thread Count Lab has decided to share extracts from our flow of collected inspirations and experiments. Interweaving the ‘old’ with the ‘new’ and the subject area of materiality is our focus. We believe that our challenge as meaningful creators is to integrate time-honoured crafts and practices with the boundless potentials of modern technology and materials in the digital age. New materials present opportunities for fascinating innovations. New materials can stimulate and inspire designers and producers. New materials can transform the visual appearance of our world.

These concepts throw up many interesting insights and questions that we believe are ripe for exploration; and we hope to answer the question: Through materiality how can we embed sentiment into materials?

So, pack your bags dear readers and join us as we travel into a world of possibilities.
